Research project funded by the National Science Centre (NCN) and entitled „BalTec” is realized consortium of three research institutions: Institute of Geophysics of the Polish Academy of Sciences, Institute of Geological Sciences of the Polish Academy of Sciences and Polish Geological Institute, in close cooperation with University of Hamburg. Main dataset used in this project consists of approximately 850 km of reflection seismic data acquired in 2016 in the Southern part of the Baltic Sea. Additionally, legacy reflection seismic data, refraction seismic data, and grav-mag data are also used. Main research goal of this project is better understanding of structure and Phanerozoic evolution of the transition zone from the Precambrian Platform to Palaeozoic Platform. Key research problems include:

  1. structure of the Teisseyre – Tornquist Zone
  2. thin- or thick skinned nature of the Caledonian deformation front
  3. Cambro-Ordovician, Silurian and Permo-Mesozoic evolution of the offshore part of the Baltic Basin
  4. possible influence of post-glacial relaxation on fault reactivation and fluid migration
