His research is focused mainly on the origin of various types of waters encountered in geological environment (especially deep circulating ones, drainage waters in mines, highly mineralized, thermal and oil-associated), groundwater dating, water-rock interaction, exploration and utilization of geothermal resources, development and improvement the techniques of determination of isotopic composition of water and selected compounds dissolved in water. He actively developes application of hydrogeological, isotopic and hydrogeochemical methods in mining industry to impove its effective exploration possibilities and sustainable utilization of natural resources.
Up to date, since 1998, Dr Porowski was involved in several scientific grants awarded by national governmental istitutions in the role of investigator, main investigator, leader or consultant. In the field of applied hydrogeology and geochemistry he was involved in preparation of Detailed Hydrogeological maps of Poland, Geothermal Atlas of the Eastern Carpathians, several industrial expertise, and R+D projects. 
Dr Porowski is also involved as external, independent expert for scientific and R+D+I projects reviews in national and international (UE as well as national European countries) agencies.
