Stable Isotope Laboratory (ISOLAB)

The Stable Isotope Laboratory specializes in the analysis of stable isotopes of light elements. Our primary focus is on analyzing the isotopic composition of carbon, oxygen, nitrogen, hydrogen, and sulfur in a wide range of geological samples (sediments, rocks, minerals, fossils), organic samples (soils, remains of organisms), and water samples (groundwater, surface water, precipitation).

Our analyses include:

δ¹³C and δ¹⁸O in carbonates (e.g., limestones, siderites, carbonate concretions, carbonate fossils, mollusk shells, the carbonate fraction of vertebrate tooth enamel),
δ¹⁸O in phosphates (e.g., apatites, vertebrate tooth enamel),
δ³⁴S in sulfates (e.g., gypsum, anhydrite),
δ¹³C, δ¹⁵N, and δ³⁴S in organic matter (e.g., soil humus, lake sediments, bone collagen, plant remains),
δ²H and δ¹⁸O in water (e.g., precipitation, groundwater, mineral water, drinking water samples),
δ¹³C in dissolved inorganic carbon (DIC) (e.g., in groundwater, mineral water, and water from karst systems).

Our analyses are used in paleoecological, paleoclimatic, geochemical, and hydrogeological research. We also have experience collaborating with botanists, ecologists, archaeologists, paleontologists, and anthropologists. By working with various scientific institutions, we continuously expand our analytical capabilities.
