On Monday, September 21st, 2020 the Council of the European Mineralogical Union held its last meeting. During the meeting with all representatives of the European mineralogical societies the Council and its President Michael Carpenter (PhD, Cambridge University) officially ended their terms of office.
The new Council for 2020-2024 was elected. Ewa Słaby, professor and the Director of the Institute of Geological Sciences, Polish Academy of Sciences, Warsaw was appointed the new President of the European Mineralogical Union (EMU). Professor Słaby previously held the position of the Vice-president of the EMU. This is the first time a Polish scientist has been elected to become president of the EMU.

Celebrating this unique event the employees of the Institute’s Research Centre in Warsaw congratulated Professor Słaby on behalf of all co-workers and colleagues and presented a bouquet of flowers to the newly elected Madam President.

The software will be used in PhD research projects and statutory tasks at the Institute of Geological Sciences, Polish Academy of Sciences.

We are proud to inform that on 5th of December 2019 the Polish Academy of Science General Assembly on Its 140th session chose new full and associate members of the Academy. Scientists from the Institute of the Geological Sciences, PAS have been awarded with this honour.
Prof. Stanisław Mazur - IGS PAS Deputy Director for Research and Head of the IGS PAS Cracow Research Centre - has become an associate member of the Academy. Prof. Andrzej Żelaźniewicz - head of the IGS PAS Wroclaw Research Centre for many years - has become a full member of the Academy.

The new LA ICP-MS spectrometer was installed at the Institute of Geological Sciences of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw on 13th December 2019. The Attom ES spectrometer is particularly suitable for precise analysis of the isotope ratio and trace elements (ppb) in solid and liquid materials. Installation works are underway.

On 11th of December 2019 the results of a competitive selection process for the post of IGS PAS director in the upcoming four years were presented. Professor Ewa Słaby - the current director of the Institute of Geological Sciences, Polish Academy of Sciences - was appointed for the next 4-years term of office, beginning 1st of January 2020.
