Alpha Spectrometer

The Octête (Ortec) Alpha Ensemble multi-chamber particle spectrometer with silicon detectors is using for dating sediment cores by the 210Pb method. The activity of 210Pb is determined indirectly by alpha measurements of 210Po activity. Alpha source is prepared according to internal procedure based on the spontaneous electrodeposition of 210Po from the solution on silver discs. The CRS-model developed in cooperation with the University of Bergen in Norway is using for calculation. The age-depth models are created using the MOD-AGE algorithm (Hercman & Pawlak, 2012; Hercman et al., 2014 ).
