About the Museum:

The Museum houses collections representing several disciplines of geology: palaeobotany, palaeontology, mineralogy and lithology. The collections have been gathered for the last 130 years, originally by the Physiographic Commission of the Krakow Scientific Society. They include 129 documentary collections (published) and 69 unpublished - altogether about 100 000 specimens. All the collections are accessible for research. The museum accepts new collections documented by their authors. A computerized data bank for all the collections is under development.

The museum is organizing exhibitions, lectures and seminars, alone and in cooperation with other museums. The permanent exhibit "Geology of the Krakow Region" presents the summary of geological knowledge about the area which is very interesting from the geological viewpoint and has been the subject of geological studies since XVIII century. The exhibit is addressed to schools of all levels as well as to other non-professional visitors.
